I’m going to Middlebury! Bread Loaf! I’ve been selected to be a chaperone at the New England Young Writers’ Conference, and I couldn’t be happier.
The conference is held over four days on the Bread Loaf campus in Ripton, Vermont. This, for those of you who don’t know, is the same campus that hosts the Bread Loaf Writers Conference, which has been around since Robert Frost suggested it in 1926. The NEYWC is celebrating its 31st year of existence, and will host 250 high school juniors, teachers, and staff from around the country as they pursue workshops in poetry and fiction.
As a chaperone, I will also be able to participate in a fiction workshop based on a manuscript I submit. So I get to attend all of the readings with fantastic writers that the kids do, get to attend craft classes, and fully immerse myself in writing for four solid days.
Yup, that’s nirvana.
Not the band, the state of mind.
